You are welcome to your interpretation. It isn’t mine. Stop tugging my apron strings, already.

Are you enjoying your social security?

I would have enjoyed keeping that money in the first place instead of the govt taking it then doling a portion of it back to me like a benevolent dictator.

For the covid-vaccinated only

I doubt the islanders of the time appreciated losing their recently gained autonomy to become a colony of another power.

Yet they can vote to be a country at any time. Just can’t seem to get it done.

Another problem with males today - indecisive.

History shows most didn’t save the money. They spent it.

Glad you’re enjoying your SSI.

We can add the whole legal system reform to the list as well.

I bet he would enjoy the much greater sum he would have if he had been allowed to keep and invest everything he paid into it instead. And there would be no need to tax me to pay him.

But most wouldn’t have invested, they would have spent it. I’m sure he would claim that he would have been one of the savers which is what everyone claims. “Oh, but I would save every penny!”

Their ideas are privatizing it. Government money going to the pockets of private interest to do the same service that the government once did in the name of efficiency and competition but it all is a big scam.

Can only speak for myself but my private investment is much higher than what I have been forced to pay into social security.

Ok, same here. Retirement is a three-legged stool. 1-pension 2-401k 3-SSI

#1 has been eliminated for most.
#2 is not available to everyone
#3 has problems that are being pushed further and further down the track for someone else to deal with.

Those of us that paid in are not reaping benefits of socialism. This old canard is ridiculous for those of us who paid. In fact… socialism is sucking money out of Social Security as it gives “to each according to their need” without demanding that they pay in.

#1 is dying, yes
#2 or IRAs

All the more reason why #3 needs to be maintained. It’s health can be solved via higher limits, higher rates, lower payouts…likely some combination. I believe once we get though the demographic bubble of the baby-boomers SSI will be on firmer footing.

Yes you are. SS is socialism.

You paid in money that someone else used.

But we aren’t benefitting from it, we are losing money. Had I been able to keep it and invest my return would be far higher. If anyone should be against it, you should. Might want to peruse the life expectancy of black men and when SS begins paying out.

Yep…it is a pay as you go funding system.

Today’s workers are paying for today’s non workers.

But people like to say that they “paid in” because they don’t want to admit that this really popular government program is in fact socialism.
