It represented our space program which started a long time ago. America prevailed in the space race culminating in the shuttle program.
You prefer to think of America as a failed state. Sorry, that doesn’t correspond to reality IMO.

Trying to live off of grandpa’s laurels? Tsk, tsk. Those days are over and your ilk is responsible.
It is a failed state and again your ilk is responsible. Your opinion ignores reality.

Slippery slope is happening right now.
Your choice to ignore it doesn’t change it.

At best, it’s “socialism” in quotes.
You have already been corrected on that.
I can’t help you further.

Absolutely correct. I KNOW many of the posters here did NOT think America had attained its greatness in that time.
Every poster that supported MAGA knew we hadn’t yet achieved our greatness, else they wouldn’t have been looking for America to be made great again. That very phrase and acronym, by definition, points to an effort to attain the goal.
Innovation stopped with the space program? I used it as an example of how to view the US. Since then we’ve invented the Internet, personal computers and a whole host of amazing things. Our country, despite having socialist programs, has achieved (space program) and continues to achieve great things.
It is sad you see us as a failed state.

It happened under a country that had socialist programs. Sneaky believes we cannot have Nordic socialist programs as we will devolve into Venezuela because of our racial minorities (namely, blacks and Hispanics). Weird, huh?

Private sector is now doing it at an order of magnitude lower cost of payload to orbit and is poised to make another order of magnitude reduction in the near future.

I guess one could murder their way to success in a true socialist system. That’s how the Chinese did it.

That’s great. Are you surprised that efficiency gains are made as technology improves over time?

WuWei:
Have we not?
No we have not.

WuWei:
Why?
Americans like having a basic social safety net.
Fear of a slippery slope is no reason not to do something.
Really? It’s pretty popular. My dad’s side of the family uses “Hispanic” when speaking English. So I got that from them. Though now I wonder if it’s a heritage thing to emphasize their Spanish ancestry.
Also Hispanico? Is that Mexican? Its Hispano.

I have heard the term Hispanico within my family as well, parents are also from Mexico

When did government ever reduce the cost of payload by an order of magnitude? Never.

That’s what I figured. I’ve never hung out around many Mexicans. More Caribbean Latinos where I’ve lived.
Ok. Not really germane to my point.

No we have not.
I disagree. It’s not at the same level in every area of course, but that was the case there as well. I see the exact same drift into the culture of criminality, rotting slums, lack of education, etc. that I observed there.
Could it be that after decades of forced taking, “Americans” are afraid change will input loss? Or that they’re owed? It’s their money?
Ridiculous. It’s not fear, it’s recognition of basic fact. “Something” is not always better. Is SS going broke or not?

Never heard it from a single Latino. The Latinos I know don’t care for Spaniards. They had a revolution to throw off the yoke.
Maybe it’s a Boston - Irish thing where you’re from.
It’s me mocking.

The internet and personal computers were not invented after 2011.
We’ve achieved a whole lot of nothing for about a generation now. Oh we’ve managed to tip over some statues, scream in the streets, start some fires, cancel a few careers… anything else?
