Here is a Tariffs Thread

I believe you’re right, but it still has to go through the senate. And it sounds like 4 republicans are refusing to go along with it…if so will any democrat cross over? Only one I can think of is Fetterman.

Edit to add, I guess it doesn’t have to go through the senate.

Not all tariffs need congressional approval (via CoPilot)

  • Trade Expansion Act of 1962: Allows the President to impose tariffs for national security reasons (e.g., Section 232 tariffs).

  • Trade Act of 1974: Grants the President authority to address unfair trade practices (e.g., Section 301 tariffs).

  • International Emergency Economic Powers Act (IEEPA): Enables the President to impose tariffs during a declared national emergency.

I guess this is one that it falls under.

I was just thinking any new foreign change in US policies had to go through the senate.

Sorry, but that’s crazy talk. You want everyone to rally around skyrocketing prices at the grocery store and hardware store? the need to bail out big farm yet again? Niche industries losing global markets and collapsing? Bars and restaurants jacking their prices to the point of diminished sales?

It will take 5 years to ‘bring manufacturing home’ minimum. And honestly who would build a factory knowing the next administration might well scrap the EO tariffs day one?

No one. And why would they?

We have the biggest economy the world has ever seen

Vast fortunes have been made selling affordable wares from over seas. Home depot, walmart. etc…and the other side of that - our consumers can buy things their parents could only dream of.

This is folly - pure and simple. A disaster that we will pay for for a decade.

I don;'t think it has to. I think they are mounting an effort to STOP them, but don’t have enough GOPers yet.

The courts might stop them because clearly there is no emergency in the sense meant by the statute trump is using.

The dastardly heinous anti-free trade tariffs being imposed by the WH today are

  • never more than the loving wonderful tariffs job creating angelic tariffs being imposed against us by our so-called friends.
  • in many cases they are half

From today’s WH announcement

do you dislike Tariffs?
Or do you pretend to dislike tariffs because it helps you argue against Trump?

If you oppose tariffs why have you never opposed the tariffs imposed against US goods?

You might be right…but they won’t be running on it will they? They will in effect be running on shipping jobs back out of our country.

Trade Act of 1974…not sure what courts can do about that one. Now I"m sure libs will find a judge to poke eye out though.

You’re not falling for that are you? The calculated currency manipulation and other factors in his claims of tarries from our partners. Be also doesn’t tell us what sector or product those tariffs are on.

They will be running on letting the mom and pop hardware store put out of business because of spiraling costs of c
Goods out of business reopen again.

And letting a drink at the bar be less that 20 bucks again.

And the can that the craft brewer uses being cheap again so that industry can compete once again with the huge brewers.

And having a car load of stuff from Walmart be less than 300 again.

And your car being 10k less expensive.

And on and on and on.

I thought it hinged on declaring an emergency. But I’m not sure.

It doesn’t have to be on the same sector.

If we export wheat and Country A puts a tariff on our wheat
does that mean the only thing we are allowed to put tariffs on is their wheat exports to us?

That’s moronic!!

No we should put whatever tariffs are in our best interest
and
We should make our opponents feels stupid for never ever ever ever opposing tariff imposed against the US but then magically pretending to be “anti-tariff” as soon as Donald Trump imposed some.

Raising the prices is not a good idea

in the short term. but he’s a long game thinker

Can someone confirm if this is true in terms of what we pay for imported goods compared to what’s going out?

If the numbers are indeed incorrect any source that shows the true number? This isn’t the full list but how are these numbers determined and —>if<— true we are getting ■■■■■■■

We know it is true because the MSM is not saying it is untrue.
(It it were untrue that would indeed be news)

They are pretending the list does not exist
and reading from the same tired talking points they have been reading from for months.
