Here is a Tariffs Thread

That’s a big IF.

We shall see

Nope. Didn’t make anything up at all. Mexico had zero interest in stopping illegals from entering our country and in fact, aided and abetted the process. I wouldn’t be at all surprised to discover that Mexican officials have been taking bribes to help, or at least turn a blind eye. It wasn’t until Trump won that anything was going to change UNTIL Trump forced them to change. Like the Canadian state hyperbole, I don’t think Trump cares if the Mexican troops actually do anything, illegal crossings are down 90% in two weeks ( at least in some areas) with just the actions Trump has already taken. What Trump is doing is putting Mexico (and Canada) on notice that business as usual is over for them in regards to how they treat and respect the US and our laws. Trump demands the ridiculous, and if he actually gets it great, but I think he would settle for far less. It’s called negotiating from a position of strength. Something Libs know nothing about

As for the 10 million " ASYLUM SEEKERS"? That’s total ■■■■■■■■ and you know it. Even for the tiny percentage of illegals who might be genuine asylum seekers and would ultimately be granted that status after a proper hearing- that doesn’t entitle them to be treated like royalty on the American tax payers dime, especially when we have people in our own country that lost their homes to hurricanes or other disasters and were treated like ■■■■ by the Biden administration!

Some, not all, right ? What extra stuff did he get ?

I don’t think the US gets “screwed” with trade imbalances.

Def not all. I would say pushing through planned enforcement at a faster rate. Lighting a fire. It’s difficult to quantify. But i doubt that the 1.3 billion in enforcement that Canada was promising was going to be spent by February. I would argue that this speeds it up.

Yep! Again, we have Biden to thank for that.

Don’t you ever get tired of blabbering about Bidens make believe accomplishments?

I won’t know until the markets close.

IMO you can only have fair trade with non representative countries.

Where did I say that?

It was implied. If not Biden, then who?

it’s probably a little bit of biden… Didn’t he sign some EOs after the immigration bill failed?. But Fentynal has been falling since 2023 for a number of reasons.

Killing off your customers does tend to lower sales after awhile.

That’s the thing with heroin - a lull in deaths doesn’t actually happen.

Unless someone starts hiding the bodies of course

I concur, but hasten to add (emphatically)
that trade imbalance is the symptom of a sick economy.

I don’t think coughing, and losing weight, and growing a lump kill people. But I do recommend treating the cancer that causes all that.

In Mexico foreign corporations cannot buy land anywehre near the border (best locations) and a limited in produce buying to dealing with socialist and quasi-socialist enterprises.
→ Not a free market.

In China forengers cannot own land anywhere (neither can Chinese) and people are not allowed to move from their birthplace without special permission (n free market in labor.) Plus China has slave labor (Xinjinag province) and TWO currencies to gurantee there is not even a small chance of a free market flow of goods and services.
→ Not even close to a free market. The very opposite of what David Ricardo wrote about.

E-V-E-R-T-H-I-N-G that has been written by the major economists about free trade assumes ceteris paraibus both economies are free-market economies.
