Believe it or not, I consider you an intelligent person, misguided but intelligent, but to actually believe and perpetuate this ridiculous notion that even an egotist like Trump believed a handful of unarmed people could literally undo or overturn a national election really diminishes that opinion.
Seriously, by what means do you think Trump thought this was a realistic outcome? Were these rioters going to take congress people hostage and demand the election be overturned? Demand the election be overturned or the would blow something up? Kill people? Seriously, how long, even if they managed to occupy the Capitol and barricade themselves in… THEY WERE UNARMED…. ONLY A SMALL GROUP!!! And they were going to do what??? Withstand an assault by the police? The military??? WHAT?? At absolute best, they could cause a disruption which could possibly cause a delay in the official results. That’s not a coup or even an attempted coup. It was a riot. Period.

It’s not fascism to want secure borders, conservative values meaning less government, and since the democrats ran off the working class wanting companies to move their factories from the slave pits in China back to America. Trump was right.
I believe that the federal government is such a lost cause. But i think the real effort should be directed to our state and local governments. The supreme court ruling has made a strong case to allow state governments to self.govern.

I don’t think even President Trump** thought that the rioters would hold the capital.
What he wanted was so sow chaos, to scare Representatives and Senators, and even his own Vice President in such a way that they ignored their Constitutional duty to count the Electoral College votes that had been certified by the States. For Congress to ignore the will of the people, not do their duty to and just hand him a second term. To throw out enough votes from swing states to hand him the election.
Or by throwing out enough votes, to delay, delay, delay to the point it created a Constitutional crisis resulting in the election being thrown to the House. Why? Because if he could get the selection of President to the House, the House votes not by individual members, but - to quote the 12th Amendment - “But in choosing the President, the votes shall be taken by states, the representation from each state having one vote;…”. If the vote had gone to the House, his thinking was that he would win since because each state only got 1 vote and there were more red delegations that blue. He would remain in power.

However, it didn’t work out that way. The riot probably worked against him and combinations of Senators & Representatives would NOT submit the formal letters of challenge required by the law for challenging a States EC vote. Mike Pence (agree or disagree with his politics) had a spine and refused to knuckle under to President Trump’s** pressure to exceed his duty in counting the EC votes.
