Yeah, he was from Florida. I think the pipes were full of some sort of flash powder that could have caused burns, but the devices would not have exploded. Authorities did not consider them harmless, however, and treated him as a domestic terrorist. This ninny at the mall in Missouri could find himself in the same pickle unless he can prove he meant no harm to anyone. As I said, stupidly should be illegal … or at least hurt.

Well the guy from Florida actually sounds like he meant to harm someone, was just a bit too dimwitted to know how to execute properly. Guy from Missouri just walked around filming himself while exercising his constitutional right.

They are both dim witted.
They’re charging the man with making a terrorist threat in the second degree. “Missouri protects the right of people to open carry a firearm, but that does not allow an individual to act in a reckless and criminal manner endangering other citizens,” Greene County Prosecuting Attorney Dan Patterson said in a statement announcing the charge.
The man was not acting recklessly. He was shopping and filming himself. The film is evidence that he was not acting recklessly. It’s a good thing he was filming himself, otherwise it’s likely people would have lied about what his actions actually were. Additionally, there’s no evidence at all that he was endangering other citizens. People do not have the right to not get their feelings hurt.
Unless the laws are changed, the man was acting lawfully and should not be treated in this manner. This is highly alarming to me that the laws do not match what the public is comfortable with, and this is leading to law abiding citizens getting harassed by other citizens and law enforcement, who are called and do nothing but escalate the situation. People are going to get shot during these misunderstandings. Either we’re comfortable with open carry laws or we’re not.

His fifteen seconds of fame didn’t work out quite the way he expected, did it?

They were originally charging him with 1st degree terrorist threat, now they have dropped to 2nd degree terrorist threat… Since the state of Missouri allows open carry with few restrictions, unless he was threatening someone, I don’t see this charge holding up for very long… Once the excitement cools down, I expect they will quietly drop the case.

Casenet has been updated and the docket information can now be viewed. FireFox doesn’t play well with Casenet, so use Chrome.

State is going through with Terrorist Threat - 2nd Degree { Felony E RSMo: 574.120 }
Defendant has pleaded not guilty and has bonded out, after a comical mixup with the bondsman company in court.
The man was certainly exhibiting hoplophobia by walking around a Walmart wearing body army. Clearly he was afraid someone would shoot him.
I’m reminded of a plane that had 4 Muslims on it on 9/11. When their fellow passengers found out t hey were on the plane - having passed through security with no problems - they demanded the men be removed and they were.
The Muslims successfully sued for racism. “We went through security with no problems!” was their defense.
Never mind that all the damn terrorists on all the other damn planes had also gone through security with no problems.
The Muslims won their case and were actually awarded damages.
Hope not.
He’s an idiot who deserves jail time, just on principle.

On principle, he’s at home right now, probably looking for things on the internet to be angry about.
And then take out that anger by donning his body armor and taking his rifles and going out and killing a few people?
I hope not.
It’s easy to talk big on the internet, that’s true. When you’re in a Walmart or other store/location and some heavily armed guy with body armor comes strolling in, I will be interested to hear how you react.

Well isn’t that special.
Why is it special?
Oh no, sir, you are too simple.
Can’t you put down my opinion in a more clever way? Sort of like SixFoot attempted to do?
I repeat the same retort to you. When you’re in a building and a heavily armed man with body armor strolls in, I will be very interested to hear how you react.

So you are comparing this gentleman with the post-911 Muslim travelers in the sense that neither had done anything wrong but were inconvenienced because of the fearful perceptions of others ?

Here's to feeling good all the time. :

You totally misunderstood. I presume you have not read my other posts in this thread.
I think this gunman absolutely did do something wrong, and stupid, and should go to jail. Or at least have his toys taken away, never to be returned.
I think the Muslims were rightfully removed from the plane, regardless of the fact that they hadn’t done anything wrong, because there was totally justified suspicion that they could also be terrorists.
I think that a judge should never have let their lawsuit go to trial, and that the jurors who awarded them damages were idiots!
Oh - you’re in the Army, right?
I don’t care about those firefights per se. Youre with your buddies, right? Heavily armed, body armor, ready to kill any enemy that shows his or her face.
I just want to hear if you’re ever in civilian garb, in a Walmart or other location, and a heavily armed man in combat armor walks in - what your reaction is then?
Will you leave? Will you ask the guy if he’s going to kill people or if he’s just afraid of getting killed by someone else? Or what?
