Former President Barack Obama officially waded into the 2018 midterm elections this week; endorsing over 80 liberal candidates across the country and notably ignoring socialist superstar Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez.
Obama threw his full support behind dozens of Democratic hopefuls Wednesday, releasing an official statement that outlined his agenda and how he hopes to help the left-wing candidates before November.
“I am proud to endorse such a wide and impressive array of Democratic candidates—leaders as diverse, patriotic, and big-hearted as the America they’re running to represent,” Obama said in a statement on Wednesday. “I’m confident that, together, they’ll strengthen this country we love by restoring opportunity that’s broadly shared, repairing our alliances and standing in the world, and upholding our fundamental commitment to justice, fairness, responsibility and the rule of law.”
Absent from his list was Cortez, who raised eyebrows throughout Democratic circles after she defeated longtime incumbent and party insider Joe Crowley in New York.
