When asked a softball question about how she would make life more affordable, Harris replied with a word salad about her childhood, and never got around to any specifics.
According to Bernie Sanders, Harris is really a “progressive” and her apparent policy flipflops are “pragmatic” in the interest of winning the election.
Sen. Bernie Sanders, I-Vt., on Sunday called Vice President Kamala Harris’ decision to moderate her views on fracking and “Medicare for All” “pragmatic,” saying that Harris is “doing what she thinks is right in order to win the election” and that he still considers her to be “progressive.” Sen. Bernie Sanders says he considers Harris ‘progressive’ and her policy changes are ‘pragmatic’
While I agree that Harris’s statements are intended to help her win the election, I disagree with Sander’s assessment of Harris’s true intentions. From everything I see, Harris’s real platform is the same as Biden’s, and it can be succinctly stated in two simple points:
Harris will read whatever is put in her teleprompter.
She will sign whatever is put on her desk in front of her.
Is that the best statement of the Harris platform?
This softball question was about improving affordability, and it was open-ended. The only thing specific was a request for one or two examples, but Harris provided nothing.
If you have an example of Trump doing the same thing, then post it. I suspect that the alleged example was more of a “gotcha” along the lines of “have you stopped beating your wife yet, answer yes or no . . .”
Never personally had a politician make my life better only worse, regardless of side. People waiting for politicians to make their life better and probably in for a world of disappointment. Family, friends, career, culture, music, art etc… will help one’s life be better not a political party.
And if you do find yourself on the receiving end of the government, let’s say forgiving some student loan, the poor schmuck behind you will likely have to pay more in college tuition. Prices aren’t decreasing and Harris nor Trump is going to reverse the damage done by decades of government over spending.
This was his answer to a question about what legislation he would prioritize to reduce the cost of child care:
After saying he “would do that” and calling it a “very important issue,” Trump pivoted to pitching “taxing foreign nations at levels they’re not used to — but they’ll get used to very quickly.” Trump has long discussed slapping tariffs of at least 10 percent on imports, raising concerns of a trade war if he returns to the White House.
The Republican presidential nominee suggested in New York that the revenue from such tariffs would somehow be so large that the cost of child care would no longer be a concern for the United States.
“Those numbers are so much bigger than any numbers that we’re talking about, including child care, that it’s going to take care,” Trump said, without elaborating on how the tariff revenue would lower child-care costs.
Trump went on to suggest that the tariffs would generate trillions of dollars for the country to address a range of its needs. Child care, he added, would be “not very expensive compared to the kind of numbers we’ll be taking in.”
“We’re going to make this into an incredible country that can afford to take care of its people,” Trump said.
The Republican candidate also said, “We’re going to have — I look forward to having no deficits within a fairly short period of time. Coupled with the reductions that I told you about on waste and fraud and all of the other things that are going on in our country — because I have to say with child care, I want to stay with child care, but those numbers are small relative to the kind of economic numbers that I’m talking about, including growth.
“But growth also headed up by what the plan is that I just told you about. We’re going to be taking in trillions of dollars, and as much as child care is talked about as being expensive, it’s, relatively speaking, not very expensive compared to the kind of numbers we’ll be taking in.”
You have to agree that’s a pretty nonsensical answer
