Caleb was one of the first people to volunteer for a joint study the Veterans Administration is conducting with Canine Companions for Independence to scientifically document whether veterans with PTSD as a primary diagnosis can be helped with a highly trained service dog. Caleb was matched with Velvet during this study. Velvet is a 6-year-old lab/golden retriever cross who has been trained by Canine Companions for Independence to help Caleb with his PTSD symptoms in a variety of ways by performing specific commands- The commands include, “block”, “search”, “light”, “lap”, “behind”.
