If I catch you on my empty lot, it must be posted to accuse you of trespass, unless you refuse to leave when I demand you do so. Even commercial property owners can have you arrested for trespassing without having their property posted.

The fact of the matter is, somebody walking up to your door and ringing the bell is not automatically trespassing, unless posted otherwise.

That is not true which is proven in your own post that says “Many States” not all.Many states you can not walk onto someones property and it does not even have to be posted to be considered trespassing. Here is Colorado for example: Colorado
