Then you aren’t oppressed.
WuWei:Governance.
So you like everything about your life except the people in charge of the state government? That doesn’t make sense to me.
State income, sales and property taxes can add up.
Then you aren’t oppressed.
If you like your house, your neighbors, and your job, then you aren’t either. Life is good.
State income, sales and property taxes can add up.
Redrawing state borders so some people can pay less in taxes without moving to an already lower-tax state seems drastic to me.

I’m not governed by Portland.
I’m not governed by Portland.
But if you love everything about your life, who cares which party controls the state? Central planners in state capitals make laws for the whole state, even in Idaho.

Well you are smart enough to know it isn’t just about taxes.

Indeed, but not all laws are compatible with all cultures.

I’m just responding to your comment.

Wasn’t meant as an all inclusive list of reasons, only a refutation that tax reasons were trivial.

There is also incrementalism. Things get less acceptable further down ye ol’ slope.
Indeed, but not all laws are compatible with all cultures.
Yes, that’s one of the great things about living in the US. Many states, many cultures, and many jurisdictions to choose from. But generally people move to the culture they want to be a part of, not the other way around.
Why no chance? Oh right, everyone knows, once the left has you in its clutches it will never let you go without blood being spilled. Consent of the governed is a foreign concept to them.
Isn’t it a pretty difficult process to actualize this ? I mean - has such a thing EVER been done ?
Is there something sacred about a states borders?
Yes, which is why it is almost impossible to do what these people are proposing.

What concrete steps are actually needed ?
What concrete steps are actually needed ?
Approval of the Oregon legislature for one.
Lawmakers always want to lose half of the state. Along with tax revenue generated because some malcontents want to.

That’s probably a sizeable hurdle but I doubt the only one or the biggest one that’s needed

That’s the first step (and a loss right off the bat)
Moving part Oregon to Idaho is a non starter.

But what else is needed ?
Idaho needs to accept and Congress has to approve.
