The American economy continued to roar under President Trump and the Republican-controlled Senate in the first quarter of 2019, with new data showing unemployment claims plunged to levels not seen in over 49 years.

“The number of Americans filing applications for unemployment benefits dropped to a more than 49-year low last week, pointing to sustained labor market strength despite slowing economic growth,” reports CNBC.

“Initial claims for state unemployment benefits declined 10,000 to a seasonally adjusted 202,000 for the week ended March 30, the lowest level since early December 1969, the Labor Department said on Thursday,” adds the article.

The strong economic data comes as a series of Democratic presidential candidates are pushing for massive new federal spending programs including Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’ ‘Green New Deal.’
