I like the DeSantis plan which helps with all Rx costs by lessening the power of PBM’s to decide prices charged as well as denying an Rx even if prescribed by your doctor. Why just insulin when folks can’t afford other medications?

Allow the state to hold prescription benefit managers, or PBMs, accountable for the prices people are ultimately charged for their medications, and open the door to reforms. He said it would also help smaller, independent pharmacies that want to stock those medications.

The governor also said he is looking into a provision in federal law that would allow states to purchase drugs from Canada and is working with federal agencies to activate that provision.

I think they are two different plans to help reduce the costs of prescriptions.

Insulin has been around a very long time. I’m not sure why it is so expensive at this point. It would be good to know what the profit margins are. If Newsome can produce it for a fraction of what is currently being charged that is step in the right direction and I applaud him for that.

What if what DeSantis is doing and what Newsome is doing causes the manufacturer’s to lower their prices for fear that they will be circumvented? That would be a good thing no matter who is a democrat or republican. Agreed?

There are a lot of questions posed. We know the answers with newsome plan. We don’t yet know with desantis.

That is of course not that important. If desantis succeeds good for Florida, great even.

Agreed. I also hope other States pay attention and work on a program as well.

IMO, it is asinine that American’s have to pay 4 times more for insulin than other countries. I think DeSantis has it right in starting with the PBM’s who manage cost to the patient and who can deny medications even if prescribed by a doctor.
