Then he should know what damage the current Commandant is doing. He should also know that “marine corp” is insulting to Marines who have earned the right to be called Marines, not marines.
I also am a Marine, 85-92, and know several Active Duty Marines and some that have gotten out BECAUSE of the lack of leadership from our top Officers.
Respectfully this literally applies to no other profession for some reason. Many here opine on how doctors lawyers scientists basically any profession should do their job and how they should act.

I believe @tnt is referring to the Commandant.

Fair point. Is any other profession comparable?
On some levels yes. “Comparable” is subjective.

WuWei:
On what levels?
The original choice to join the profesion on a volunteer basis

Fair point. I think there is a difference between joining the military and “joining the profession”.
Anything else?
for those dedicated to either, i believe its more than a job, its a calling
Yes working in a system controlled and regimented by others
Meh. I have been around long enough to see several of these panics, and the dire predictions never manifest.
I have faith in the institution, and am confident that they will be just fine.

Mmmmm. I can see how it might appear that way from the outside.
There is a huge key difference in leadership requirements.
Namely manager vs leader. Leadership requires a moral authority. Men don’t throw themselves at death because some guy with stars told them to. They do it because they believe.
Milly Vanili et al are being managers, not Leaders.

It’s not the same institution.

Thanks for your service.
How long has this commandant been in charge?
Honestly, this article sounds like they are addressing recruitment issues?
In your opinion, what is a better course of action?

Beyond the first term, I would agree. I know a lot of people who join for one term as a stepping stone, or to get the GI bill, or learn some skills. Beyond that, calling.
I think being a doctor is a calling too. At least most of them.
