An unidentified civilian with a concealed-carry permit aided an injured police officer during a terrifying shootout in the Chicago suburbs Thursday night; receiving widespread praise from city officials and the local community.
The confrontation began when police attempted to pull over a suspicious vehicle for a “routine traffic stop” just outside the city limits.
The driver exited the highway before opening fire with an automatic weapon.
“We were lucky enough to have a citizen on the street there’s who’s a concealed-carry holder, and he’s also engaged in gunfire,” said Superintendent Jerry Chlada.
“He got out and started helping the police, which is something I’ve got to be proud of,” Cicero town President Larry Dominick told the Sun-Times.
