Support for the ruling party has dropped dramatically and the opposition AfD has taken the lead for the first time in opinion polls.
This comes after an epic bait and switch by the chancellor-in-waiting, Friedrich Merz. He spoke out against any change to the German constitution to remove restrictions on deficit spending before the election, but then he called a special session of the outgoing parliament to ram through the change along with a huge spending package before the new parliament took office. Merz has also backed off efforts to control immigration that he supported in during the campaign.
Of course, the proposed solution to growing opposition among German voters is to ban the leading opposition party.
Is Germany heading towards another German Democratic Republic (East Germany)? The GDR forced pre-war leftist parties into a united front under the domination of the Communist Party. Opposition parties were labeled as “fascists”, banned from elections, and their leadership was imprisoned. The republic was democratic in name only.
Henry Ford is quoted as staying “you can have any color you want so long as it is black”. Given similar efforts to ban and imprison opposition in France and Romania, is the EU’s message to voters, “you can vote for anyone you want so long as it is an open-borders globalist”.
They really can’t be banned, at least not legally under the Basic Law. They don’t support the NAZIs or push specific NAZI policies (that’s the fastest way to get banned in Germany) and they don’t push for crimes against humanity. Yeah it’s a right wing group with some questionable positions but it’s not enough for a ban.
I wonder how successful these lawfare type tactics work for the elite in holding back populists movements. I wish I could think of an example to see how this plays out in the long run.
The euro-left takes for granted that everyone on that side of the pond is some form of euro-left.
They don’t realize that continuously ■■■■■■■up will make people hate you, even if they mostly agree with you.
I mean they promised everyone a really good cradle to grave welfare state. Now they’re running around telling everyone “sorry we are running out of money cause we can’t manage finance and we have a green climate revolution to do. Austerity folks do you speak it!”
Of course the AfD can be banned. All it takes is the proper ruling from the right judges, and the judges have all been picked by parties who want to ban the AfD.
Selective enforcement of anti-Nazi laws is a part of the efforts to crush any opposition.
The image on the left is fine under German law, while the image on the right has resulted in a conviction for its American author:
41% well I wouldn’t have Austrian children if I lived there. The whole place will be Shariah when enough comes there is absolutely zero evidence that replacing the existing society with islamists will lead to a better society.
The EU is going well beyond anything that McCarthy did.
Merz’s coalition is rapidly losing support in opinion polls. Massive deficit spending is the plan, but German voters do not want that. At the same time the political establishment views the opposition party who is now leading in the polls as an existential threat.
A likely outcome is that the AfD and similar opposition parties will be banned based on directives from Brussels if bans based on national laws are not possible.
That’s 4 female witnesses, if she can’t find 2 male witnesses. It takes the word of 2 woman to cancel out or equate to the witness of one man under Islamic law codes.
