Its only been recent like within the last 30 years have we seen school shootings. I have always believed since columbine. But i am sure there were school shootings before. I know we never saw anything like this in the 80s. What is it that gives kids the motive to do this sort of thing now? The rise of social media i am sure is a factor. But it doesnt fully explain all of it.

But fewer people as a percentage of the population own firearms than was owned in the 1950s. So that does combat that theory some.

IMO, it’s a combination of various factors.

Fewer people own firearms today. But the smaller percentage of owners own more firearms than people in the past because they are cheaper to own than they were back then.

I’ve only got five guns. By today’s standards that’s nothing. My detail guy has like 30 guns including 6 AR-15s and 10 AKMs.

Granted he’s kind of a prepper to be fair. He’s got matching Kevlar body armor for himself, his wife, and their two daughters along with military grade gas masks and ponchos. And he has bug out location he owns a county over. If ■■■■ hits the fan I’m going to stay with him.

It’s always been “cool.”

Difference is that the really cool stuff used to be unobtainable level of pricing unless you were rich. That has fundamentally changed because I can buy a decent AR with a red dot sight for 700 bucks now. Way different than 30 years ago when a Colt with iron sights was well over 2 grand.

It’s fantastic, isn’t it? And people can own so many that they just forget to lock them up! And they can buy them at gun shows so there’s no record of the purchase.

I accept that the world is not a perfect place. But the danger of not having access to them is unthinkable to me. I’m half black. My ancestors were enslaved with no way to fight back and then had to live through Jim Crow for a century fighting the Klan. I’ll never give what I have up for any reason whatsoever.
