The wife started putting her middle name instead of her first name. Once she did that, the calls started coming in. It’s still bothers me that in the 21st century people still have to do this. My name is very British being that my family is from a British commonwealth country, so I’ve been lucky. However the expressions do change when a black face walk in the door, but at least I’m in the door so I can wow them with my expertise.

This is a real thing, I seen it happened plenty of times, not just with the wife, but family, friends an co-workers.

My brother changed his name on his resume from Jamarcus to Kyle (his middle name) and reapplied to a few companies that he was previous rejected from and got interviews with all of them.

He can’t prove that they denied him because his name was “ethnic”. But it is interesting.

I am not sure how we got here… but I was only describing an example of the problems with proving that you were not hired hired due to the color of your skin. Let me break it down for you…

This specific case in the OP was blatant and provable. This guy who was discriminated against has a case and should use the full extent of the law.

Although this specific guy has a case, it is not common. The reason it is not common it is very hard to prove without knowing directly from the employer that they did not choose you due to race.

It was an example, not a personal anecdote. Nor is it how I treat being rejected by a potential employer. Again, I am saying, that a private or public entity COULD tell me I am denied because I am not qualified, but in reality it was because I am black. However I would like never know unless someone exposed something stupid (like in the case of the OP).

In summary, theses cases are very hard to prove. This guy got lucky. I am rooting for him to sue the pants off of the county.

It’s the exact same thing that women have had to put up with for over a 100 years.

If the employer does not want a woman working for him then he simply says nothing and doesn’t hire her.

Same with minorities.

Easy peasy.
