I like pumping my own fuel. I can get in and out quicker.

I hear you. Especially in the winter, or if it’s raining and the pumps aren’t under a canopy. The only issues I have is pulling in and there’s one guy and four or six cars. The nozzle shuts off, and it takes him what seems like forever to get back to me - although that doesn’t happen too often. That, and my car has the filler on the passenger side. In my 1999, without automatic windows, it’s a PITA to have to reach over and open the window manually, or get them to come over to the driver side.

I don’t understand this.

Higher labor costs mean higher gas costs.

I agree. But that also depends on the gas station you go to. If you go to like a big convenience store gas station like Wawa in NJ they can be slow. But if you go to a Hess or independent station like raceway or one’s like that, it’s really quick. The gas is pumped quicker than I can do it.

He’s saying the opposite, isn’t he?

You keep thinking that. I go to stations that are solo. The guy is at my window before I can pull the gas cap release. You can pump your own gas a minute faster than me. I don’t care. A minute to not have to move, I’ll take it.

Ah - I see what you mean.

I’m with you. I’m sure it’s good for our economy as well - more jobs…not high paying obviously, but still…

Higher labor costs does not mean higher gas cost. NJ has had the lowest gas prices since forever while not pumping their own gas. Not until our previous governor decided to add a tax unrelated to labor costs. NJ residents benefitted from lower gas prices than any other state for many years. This while sitting on their asses while the rest of the country pumped their own gas. NJ is still competitive despite this.

Look at this pathetic creature that is the NJ governor. It’s a really short video. 30 some odd seconds. Look at the governor at the start, then at the end. What a puts.

Oh, Language!!!

That would be Chris Christie.

It is better for our economy. It also doesn’t allow us to use plastic bags to store and transport gasoline. How ridiculous is that? To me it’s clear most of the country is more concerned with being cost effective over safety. No one can tell me different. It’s been that way since forever.

I don’t think most of the country is transporting gas in bags.

You do realize it can be transported safely in ā€œplastic bagsā€.

I am an independent type.

Funny thing is that I hate check out yourself lines. I can’t do that quicker. They are reducing these due to retail theft which is a good thing by me.

With fuel I can pick my own open pump and pay and go as I like. I have never seen a station without a canopy…that would be an environmental hazard with rain washing the gas dribble before it could be soaked up with absorbent.

The biggest problem I see is a handful of times I get smokers at the pumps and am not able to get away from them since I have already started filling.

I can also drive safely drunk. I have that ability. Did it up until my 40s. No problems.

That’s not the point. there are so many better ways to do it.
