Hogwash. Those providers had to build new plants to meet the new regulations put in place under the last administration.

Once those plants were built and the supply infrastructure built to supply them they have to go online or face hundreds of billions in losses.

It has everything to do with the WOC. They shuttered over 200 plants during Obama’s administration and those had to be replaced with gas plants to meet the new requirements.

It’s not like you can just flip a switch between the two fuel sources and it costs hundreds of millions of dollars to refit an existing plant. Once that investment is made they aren’t going to switch back because that would require building a new plant or another refit.

Trump trying to pick winners and losers in his own way is no better.

This is just like him trying to prop up our steel manufacturing industry, and actually increasing the likelihood of a net LOSS of jobs because more people are employed by companies that USE steel as opposed to make it.

It’s a candidate pandering for votes and not thinking of the larger implications.

The average operating life-span of a coal plant is about 40 years. Over 90% of all coal plants in the US were built prior to '80, meaning theyre at, or beyond, their life span. Obama regs in place or not, these plants were looking at the end of their operational period no matter what.

Why you think they’re all red (natural gas) and green (wind) and yellow (solar)? Nothing stands in the way of these providers constructing new coal plants, especially with Trump attempting to prop up the industry. So, why then would they not choose coal? Because NG and renewables are cheaper than coal plants in terms of operations, maintenance and acquisition of the fuel (ahttps://www.eia.gov/electricity/annual/html/epa_08_04.html). Natural gas is cheaper simply because of the abundant supply we have, increasing since '08-'09, which is coincidentally when demand for coal began to drop as the price for coal increased. Costs for renewables has fallen dramatically, and they have the distinct benefit of not having costs associated with harvesting the energy to power plants, as compared to fossil-fuel powered plants.
