God I love that scene. It’s in my top 5 favorite movie sequences of all time.
It helped start my obsession with the history of the United States Marine Corps. I was way too young to be watching it (I think I was 7 or 8 the first time I saw it) but man, R. Lee Ermey was an amazing actor, a patriot, and a damn fine Marine when he was serving.
It’s crazy that he started as a technical advisor for the film and then ended up stealing the role when he had to do a fill in during a practice shoot.
