John Oliver did an entire show on immigrants and immigration last night, especially about Trump’s plan for mass deportation. He made a lot of excellent points. The best one, as far as I can see, is that booting immigrants would make the housing crisis worse, because they are the ones doing most of the construction labor. My observations here in northern NJ bear that out. I walk for 1-2 hours a day in nice neighborhoods. Many new homes are being built (after old ones are down) and the construction work is being done by hardworking, friendly, cheerful Spanish-speaking people who I’d guess are from Mexico and Central America. Some are skilled, some are laborers. What will happen if they go away? Will your kids sign up to do this hard work?
