Former US Senate Intel Staffer Indicted for Lying to FBI about Leaks

Again the special counsel is supposed to be completely independent of oversight which is a conflict.

Basically any questions are answered as “We cannot discuss an ongoing investigation”.

I’m interested in hearing the details of this.

Full indictment here. Male #1 is Carter Page.

He’s going to jail and the FBI was absolutely entitled to the reporters records relative to this investigation.

You need to edit or delete the vulgarity above about the storm.

Oh and Wolfe was sleeping with one of the reporters (Ali Watkins) he was leaking to, looks like.

Relationship goes back to '14, so chances are he’s been leaking info for some time.

He’s been the director of security for the committee for 29 years.

DoJ went after a reporters records going back years without telling her (which is going to cause a fuss), then Wolfe lied to the FBI when questioned about the leaks to three reporters and is being charged for lying to the FBI.

Not a lot more info out there yet, but Wolfe has been around for quite some time.

He’s going to jail for a long time.

Entitled to go after? Sure.

When the Obama admin did it, it did not go down well. Reporters are going to have to get better about properly using encryption to protect sources.

Quite possibly.

The reporter could easily have been a honey-pot.

She wasn’t, but it shows poor judgement nonetheless.

The Obama administration was going after a fox reporter without cause of any kind.

This gal was involved in a criminal conspiracy to acquire and distribute classified intel with her boyfriend.

The first Amendment doesn’t give reporters a pass for being involved up to their ears in such a conspiracy.

They may or may not prosecute her but this isn’t the administration abusing it’s power to intimidate an unfriendly reporter.

There is a precedent here, or a norm if you will. You don’t jail reporters for being reporters, and generally you don’t spy on them without expecting blowback.

And there’s a line journalists cannot cross. When they become part of the crime they are liable for their actions.

Freedom of the press is not a blanket protection for those involved in espionage and she was.

James A. Wolfe, 58, of Ellicott City, Md., was indicted by a federal grand jury on three counts of violating Title 18, United States Code, Section 1001. At the time he made the alleged false statements to the FBI, Wolfe was Director of Security for the SSCI, a position he held for approximately 29 years. As SSCI Director of Security, Wolfe was entrusted with access to classified SECRET and TOP SECRET information provided by the Executive Branch, including the U.S. Intelligence Community, to the SSCI. In this position, Wolfe was responsible for safeguarding all classified information in the possession of the SSCI.

Wolfe is alleged to have lied to FBI agents in December 2017 about his **repeated contacts with three reporters,** including through his use of encrypted messaging applications. Wolfe is further alleged to have made false statements to the FBI about providing two reporters with non-public information related to the matters occurring before the SSCI.

This is what is meant by “deep state” and to “drain the swamp”.

I wonder if he knew that the only reason she was sleeping with a man 30 years her senior was because he was giving her information. So NYTimes was pimping her out . Big surprise.

Yeah it’s a bit like a model marrying a billionaire. They have to know what the deal is, but maybe some of them are deluded enough to think otherwise.

so you think some organization protected by the 1st Amendment’s “Freedom of the Press” clauses is pimping out Melania?
I’d be real interested in the specifics that you can provide.

Wasn’t NYTimes.

Read the article and learn before jumping to conclusions CMI.

. Didn’t mention Melania.

Ali started the relationship in '14, she wasn’t at the NYT back then.

yes. I see. So the records are from pre-NTTimes employment. Got it.

Do you think she suddenly became a good girl when she joined NYTimes… considering her rise in the Journalism field was heavily influenced by info from Wolfe?

But fine … point taken.

Huh?

This is the deep state? Congressional staffers? And how does this “deep state” actor relate to the claims that the “deep state” is working to take down Trump, exactly?
