You have nailed the problem in the last two posts…
Bill Melugin on Fox deserves a couple of awards for the job he has done reporting from the border.
Listening to the mayors of a few “sanctuary cities” whimper about a bus load of migrants coming to their town…why the hell are they “sanctuary cities”? Then they whine there was no coordination? Did the feds coordinate with El Paso and all the other southern border towns before allowing them to be over run…with the ranchers and property owners on the border who are being over run…every story I read or hear says the morale of our border officials is at an all time low. Guess that’s to be expected when their jobs are turned into basically serving as Expedia for migrants.
I see no reason for those of us in Texas and the other border states to bear the burden of this crisis alone. NY and DC and SFO and LA and the rest want to tell us how virtuous they are…they can take a bunch of migrants and figure out what to do with them.
To your question…how do you counter that? I don’t know. Our media has gotten very good at burying stories that are uncomfortable to the left…

So are a lot of voters that politicians pay attention to before changing policies.
Well the folks at Marthies Vineyard responded in kind and compassionate “sanctuary” manner. They called in the MANG and kicked the invaders out within 24 hours!

But not before they did photo ops with them.

Most have expired but that doesn’t negate his point it makes it worse.
“While supplemental COVID unemployment benefits have mostly expired, the authors found that even with existing unemployment benefits (including Affordable Care Act subsidies), an adult would have to earn more than $80,000 a year from a 40-hour-a-week job to have the same after-tax income as certain families with two
unemployed spouses receiving government benefits”

That is one stick your head in the sand type post. Trump yelled for a southern border wall and it’s been maybe the number one subject of MAGA? You…are the one who just made it “Hobbes” political. Is that what the troughs are feeding right now?

It’s pretty obvious the poster is a provocateur. Cut the free government cheese and those help wanted signs will disappear.

Why do they compare one person’s salary to two people on unemployment?
They are also including ACA subsidies, which are not linked to unemployment.
Also, as you mentioned, UE benefits last 26 weeks in most states. Extended benefits have expired. So this is a temporary income. People would need to return to work when the bennies expire.
26 weeks of UE can’t lead to millions sitting around refusing to work.

Unemployment lasts 26 weeks.
So…
Go babble at somebody else. Your shtick is tiresome and boring.

Yea the people who study this stuff is all wrong and you are right.
. They are not comparing 1 vrs 2. They are comparing 2 vrs what one or more would have to earn. A A is a benefit. You just want to compare one instead of all the freebies so you can make yourself feel correct.

So, your misdirection is irrelevant with respect to current recipients now receiving government cheese. Cut the handouts tomorrow to the current million plus receiving government cheese and those help wanted signs will disappear.

Who are you referring to? Writers for the Post?
Why are they including ACA subsidies which are not linked to being unemployed?
Why are they comparing the salary of one person to the benefits obtained by TWO unemployed people? wouldn’t it be more logical to ask what the equivalent salary of one person’s UE benefits are? Am I missing something?
When the UE benefits run out in 26 weeks, how much of a relative salary do you make?

Oh knock it off. Do unemployed get it or not? You are being dishonest if trying to pigeon hole benefits.
They are not don’t be stupid. They are comparing what to could get against total that it beats out. Doesn’t matter if 1 or 10 helped make that amount.
Yea and? Do they make that much money or not?

What does your nonsense have to do with the effect of cutting government cheese tomorrow and the number of help-wanted signs? You are intentionally trying to distract.

Yes. But so do the employed. So why is it relevant to the question of, how much do you make when you are unemployed? If you get the subsidy either way, it’s moot. It’s not a special thing you only get if you sit at home not working. You would get it if you worked or if you didn’t.
Why so hostile? I’m asking an honest question.
My point is, it seems like a pointless comparison. Is it that shocking that if you add TWO people’s unemployment benefits, and ACA subsidies it’s more than ONE person makes without adding in their ACA subsidies? How is that comparison at all relevant?
Putting aside the fact that they get the ACA subsidies regardless of their employment or unemployment, I have no reason to doubt their figures. When you look at the hourly wage chart it seems like a reasonable amount to pay someone out of work.
BUt in the context of our discussion - which started with someone claiming that UE benefits were keeping people from working -the length of time you get these benefits is relative.
For 26 weeks you get some cash. Then you don’t. So after 26 weeks, UE bennies can’t be keeping you from getting a job.
Looking at the state I operate a business in - PA - our maximum UE beneift is $527 a week for 26 weeks. That’s $13,702.
Do you think that much mony for a half a year keeps people from looking for a job?

Again, after 26 weeks, people get no cheese.
You want to make that time frame shorter? Call your state reps and make your case.
But after 26 weeks, there are no benefits that would keep people from looking for a job.
