While the Democrats continue their latest push to remove President Trump from office over his 33-minute phone call with the leader of the Ukraine, it’s easy to forget liberal lawmakers’ first attempt back in December 2017.

On December 6, 2017, 58 House Democrats voted to invoke articles of impeachment against President Trump for his fierce criticism of NFL players “who took a knee” during the performance of the US national anthem.

“On September 23, 2017, Donald John Trump made a public statement substantially as follows: Wouldn’t you love to see one of these NFL owners, when somebody disrespects our flag, to say, Get that son of a b**** off the field right now, out, he’s fired? He’s fired!’” thereby casting contempt on professional football players who engaged in constitutionally protected protests pertaining to allegations of police misconduct with regard to racial minorities,” reads the resolution introduced by Rep. Al Green.

“Thereby inciting hate and hostility, and sowing discord among the people of the United States on the basis of race and gender,” adds the articles.
