Despite widespread opposition from nearly all GOP legislators, law experts, and White House officials, one GOP Senator is joining his Democratic colleagues in demanding to question the President’s translator regarding his personal meeting with Vladimir Putin.

Sen. Jeff Flake -one of the President’s fiercest critics- joined the liberal legislators and called for the interpreter to release her notes to Congressional investigators, saying “I would hope that those notes — all interpreters take notes — would be turned over… We need to know."

All of Flake’s colleagues slammed the left-wing demand, saying it would irreparably damage a sitting President’s ability to hold private conversations with other world leaders.

“Absolutely not,” said Sen. Lindsey Graham when asked if he would support the subpoena. “That would be the last time you ever have a foreign leader meet the President of the United States privately.”

As much as I want to know what was agreed to and what was discussed, this would be a bad step to take to bring the translator in for testimony.

As Sen. Graham said, we’f never have another meeting between leaders again.

And sometimes the leaders have to have private meetings.

Generally those private discussions don’t involve an American President who may have been complicit in illegal activity from the entity he is meeting with that benefited his campaign. They also tend not to result in said President making favorable remarks about turning American diplomats over to a hostile foreign power for questioning.

We are in unprecedented territory and that requires both accepting that reality and engaging in real efforts to hold this administration accountable for it’s constant lies, corruption, and possibly criminal behavior.
