I saw the 2022 version of Firestarter today, and it was a good film.
I liked the performances, and I loved the music. I just wished it was scarier.
It’s a good film to see in theatres.
I give this film a grade of an B.

It’s good book, but it really isn’t scary.
Terrible movie. I expect more from Blumhouse and their horror films.
Trying to condense the novel into 90 minutes just does not work. The entire movie felt rushed but that does not surprise me with Akiva Goldsmith as the producer. Goldsmith produced The Dark Tower which is in my opinion among King’s finest works but for some reason Goldsmith had the great idea of distilling multiple books into one movie. The fact it was a box office bomb tells you what a good idea that was.
Years ago King wrote that when he sells the movie rights to one of his novels he cashes the check knowing chances are it will either never get made or be a dire adaptation. Firestarter is a dire adaptation.
The only saving grace is that I watched it on Peacock and did not waste any money at the cinema.
