I went nuts last year on a new custom Model 70 in 6.5-375 Ruger that airmails 140gr pills at 3,300fps that I’m trying to fine tune for the upcoming season.
I’m getting pretty close I think as I dropped four really big hogs tonight with it on a 20 minute drive. All of them were running flat out best they could in the mud.
It was a bit strange having to cut my lead by over half to put it in their heads but by the time the season opens up I think I’ll have it down.

140 grain seems light. What type of bullet, like FNBT? Solids?
3,300fps, some up to 3,450 but without the same .3MOA accuracy.
That is some big medicine.
I’ve been shooting my last few Pegegrine VLR5’s, they are prototypes from South Africa. Some of them were running over 3,450 with excellent accuracy but I ran out of them.
Since then I’ve been working with Nosler ABLR’s and Swift Sirocco’s.
Given a choice I very much prefer the South African Mono’s over all others.
I will have to do some homework on that.

Without going into great detail they are the best performing bullets I’ve ever shot.
No matter what the velocity they always expand predictably and consistently.
Basically the copper tip caps a hollow shaft and when it contacts anything it goes off like a shape charge expanding to 1.5-3x diameter at any velocity.
They are so consistent I’ve only been able to recover three out of several hundred shot on game, they pass through cleanly every single time. The only exceptions were on a cape buff shot lengthwise and two huge boars shot length wise at over 600 yards. Both of the latter were recovered in the skin of the back hip after passing through head/shoulder and full body length from the .375 Ruger shooting 265g bullets at 2,800fps.
I was teaching #1 kid about the hole in deer clavicle/front/shoulder, where a rifle shot can be made cleanly into the engine room. I took a doe with such a shot about 4 years ago.
