There are two ways to prepare for a debate, you prep, you study, you treat it as part of the job with respect and attempt to be prepared. The other way is to ignore it, show up and bloviate and hope nobody notices you are clueless.
Biden’s doing the first. Trump is stroking his ego while endangering lives with empty gesture campaign rallies so his base can fawn all over him, this results in the second.

Have you noticed that EVERY moderator used in the debate or town halls…leans slightly left…or strongly left…just like the Mueller team? Does anyone notice a pattern of deception here…pretending to be fair and neutral…but strongly biased in one direction…that’s been going on for almost four years?
