I’ve posted multiple reasons why in this thread. You might want to take a look at them.

You posted a policy that Trump passed that made this man leave his home country?? Really?

In which post?

Immigration IS. NOT. THEIR. JURISDICTION.

Why do immigration officers need help? They’re backed by the power and resources of the federal government.

City officials should notify ICE when they know for sure someone in custody is here illegally.

Again, cities don’t have the law enforcement resources for this. They’re too busy trying to keep legal, red-blooded Americans from killing one another.

The federal government could end illegal immigration tomorrow by charging people and businesses that hire them with serious crimes, but of course they won’t do that because the swamp (still not drained) profits from it too much. Jobs are what encourage people to risk everything to come here, not the ability to hide out from ICE in a city.

Key words “wants to.” That means the current law/policy is the same as it was.

Purposefully diverting resources away from ports of entry. Purposefully turning people away before they even get to the official border crossing. Asylum metering as a policy

Of course they do, but they don’t have stated policy to do so with the Mayor bragging to the Media that they are doing it.

Nobody is asking the Cities to round up illegals. All they have to do is hold them for ICE when they have been taken into custody for other reasons. In most cases, they are not even notifying ICE that they have them. That goes far beyond not enforcing Federal law.

It would help if you read beyond the headline:

“The actual threat to the law comes not from refugees seeking asylum but from the Trump Administration seeking to restrict this right. Instead of managing migration and processing refugee protection requests in an orderly way that upholds U.S. law and ideals, border officials are illegally turning away asylum seekers and have slowed processing of asylum claims at “ports of entry.” At the same time, in violation of both U.S. and international law, the administration is attempting to deny the right to asylum to those who cross the border between ports of entry through an “asylum ban.””

Another source:

“To the contrary, these policies have forced migrants to divert from well-staffed border stations like the one in San Ysidro, Calif., where agents deliberately slowed down the number of migrants they would allow to cross each day, toward remote areas of West Texas and New Mexico, where the two migrant children died in December.”

Rounding up and prosecuting them is not their jurisdiction. Cooperation with other LEO agencies, including ICE is a responsibility. How do you think they would handle a apprehendee on a charge of say, negligent driving, who had a Federal warrant on them for bank robbery? Would they just let him go, or would they call the FBI and hold him until Agents got there?

Those policies have not “forced” the migrants to do anything.

I stated earlier that if a city has a person in custody that they know for sure is an illegal immigrant, they should notify ICE. Not notifying them qualifies as protecting illegal behavior, in my opinion.

They force some to take drastic measures if they think going back to their home countries would be a death sentence.

I don’t want to open the door and let everyone in, no questions asked. But I also don’t want to deliberately slow the process and make it more difficult for people.

I appreciate that, but we are talking about what so-called sanctuary cities ARE doing. The are blatantly not cooperating with Federal enforcement agencies when it comes to non-citizens. It is no wonder that migrants from Latin America are flooding the country … all they have to do is make it to one of those cities and they are home free.

Good post. What things should we do?

I’m with you on the aid.

Who hired these people?

Allow me to quote myself:
