That’s why i asked a local parent. I think book bannings are wrong in school libraries outside of elementary schools especially given the prudish nature of Americans in general.

Pigmalión is about a youngish girl living with a much older man. Romeo and Juliette are about sex violence and suicide. All can be banned because….

No answer? You agree with Whoopi.

Being important or a classic doesn’t disappear underage sexual content. It can wait for high school at least.

May be.

I had free reign when I was a kid, my parents had no interest in what I brought home from the library. I don’t see how I would have been harmed appreciably if I had been denied adult content until high school. You aren’t ready to fully understand it before then anyway. It turned me on to sex and drugs at an early age. Both of which I would have not have known much of anything about if not for unfettered access to an adult library. Cats kind of out of the bag now with the internet though.

Do you believe you’d be better off today if you had been prevented from reading those books?

Prevented from reading them per-highschool? Yes. I read Kinsey in third grade.

I really think the modern Jew hatred. at least the last 100 years comes down to this notion that the Jews control everything. Whether it’s bankers, movie directors, the media etc… You can find this quick on the net and will often run into it. I hear much less about the race and more about control.

This seems to be the one continuous thing you hear that’s consistent when people have been persecuting them in modern times at least, think Bernie Madoff I am sure that helped the jewish community… I actually kind of agree somewhat with Whoopi, yes the Nazis defined them as a race but if you listen to them they were still talking about how they were betrayed by the Jews at Versailles, how Jewry corrupted Germany, the Jews control Europe etc… I personally think the race thing was just a small part of it which maybe made it easier to vilify them adding the hook nose and ugly drawings of them in their propaganda etc.

I watched the boring but interesting six hour documentary called Shoah which was made in the 70’s were they go into the villages of the former deathcamps as well as places Jews were cleared out of like Lithuania and the Ukraine and they are interviewing people who were there when it happened. And you can just hear it in their words they were jealous of them, even the women were jealous of the Jewish women the way they fixed up had nice clothes and yes even get all the men’s attention. One recurring theme I kept hearing was well were sad it happened, it was wrong but ya we don’t miss them.

I don’t know maybe religion has more to do with the hatred in the middle east. But Europe and elsewhere it’s seems it’s about the perception of the Jews controlling the wealth, the media, the money, everything basically. A good example is like what Omar said “It’s all about the Benjamin’s” that’s the Jew hatred I keep reading about, hearing about, seeing on the net that is commonly shared continent to continent. I am sure I am not the only one growing up that when I was not sharing or stingy with money the phrase “Don’t be Jewish” or something of that ilk was uttered.

They are some dark places on the net 4chan and elsewhere were they list names of all the Jews in the media and directors and it’s 40-50% of all movie directors yet they make up a little over 2% of the population so it’s not hard for people to paint them this way with numbers then throw in a Bernie Madoff and wallah you get and anti-Semite.

I’ve asked that same question to a lot of people, and you’re the only one who has ever answered “yes.”

You read the Kinsey Report in third grade?

That doesn’t sound plausible.

I did. You changed the subject. Couldn’t address the reality I guess.

Do you stand by your statement? “Jewish is not a race”

To be more specific, The Joy of Sex, which relied on his work. I was already reading at high school level. I was not ready and had no business reading it.

No, I am challenging the anti-semitic notion of a ‘Jewish’ name, especially as it’s used here, to imply that a name ending with the German toponym -berg (mountain) should somehow be off-limits to someone who says stupid ■■■■ about the Holocaust.

This is why I asked if Sophie Okonedo is a ‘Jewish’ name.

Yep.

Do you hate Jewish people?

Nope.

Good to hear! neither do I.

I do agree with Jewish people. To the Nazis… Jewish people were an inferior race.

Jewish people may not be considered a race in the US (they are lumped with white” but in 1930s Germany… they were.

Do you agree?

I’m not a Nazi. You disagree with Caryn Johnson?

Whether Race has the same meaning today as it did in Germany in the 20s-
40s is an interesting subject. People of mixed race were considered inferior but if they are mixed … what race are they?

Never mind the fact that today race in the United States is something completely different from race in Europe

I am not saying it wasn’t racial judt an interesting subject. But i think tan argument can be made that it wasn’t about race but about hate/xenophobia.

We saw the first 4 humorless posts.

Thanks for sharing.
