There is no law that is causing this. It is Trump policy. He can change it immediacy if he wanted to. He wants to make it an issue because he believes his base backs him on this. And I think that it is going to backfire on him this time.

Obama considered it but did not implement a zero tolerance policy.
Most of the children he had to detain were those children that cane here themselves.

with all the stoppage of border crossing under Obama… we never heard of any of these types of detention centers…
The Times article I linked talks about these centers, whete children AND their families were held…Obama did not, in fact, do separation of kids from patents.
Oh…and unlike what the Trump supporters are saying, Obama took a HUGE amount of flak for these centers even though he kept families together.
So had he done this AND separated the kids from parents (which he did consider doing but ultimately rejected)? He would have taken EXACTLY the flak Trump is taking.
Story also shows that Trump himself had to be talked into this by Milner…this is NOT Trump “standing firm on our laws”. It’s a hard-liner in Milner being the loudest voice in Trump’s ear.
Following the law is different from policy making which violates the law.

About 2.5% of males and 8% of female inmates in the US are single parents.
By what reasoning are illegals supposed to get special treatment?
OR you could say that these families are using the broke system to try to get a pass by bringing their children along and appealing to Dems.
Here is the BOTTOM LINE: They are breaking the law to enter the US illegally. There is NO WAY AROUND THAT.

It most certainly does not. I states plainly that parents were separated from their kids in the same way under the previous administration using the same laws.
Reform their own country.

Simple fact:
If you release illegals and ask them to appear later for a hearing on their status the great majority of them melt into the population and we never see them again. unless they happen to get caught.
They have also learned that if they bring kids - or PRETEND to bring their own kids - they used to be released instead of held. That is why there is now a zero tolerance in effect. The illegals were GAMING the system, knowing that the presence of kids would ensure they would be released into the great void, where they could hide - possibly for DECADES.
What is you solution to that?

The law has always existed. The POLICY was not to strictly follow the law…to catch and release families, instead.
The LAW says that an illegal can be held until they are returned to their country or determined to be eligible to stay, but no one wants to hold children, so the PARENT(s) are held and the children are given over to others in the mean time. They will be returned to the parents when the status of the parents is decided and no longer needs to be held.
OTHERWISE, we have simply decided to allow them to melt away into the population, never to be seen again. Is that what you are advocating?
