EU "democracy" in action: First Romania, now France

Only Frenchmen with more complicated questionable legacies than De Gaulle is Napoleon and Phillipe Petain. And maybe Louis the XIV.

Yep that pretty much sums it up.

De Gaulle literally said “to save the republic we must destroy the republic.”

And he did it. That’s the crazy part. He almost ate a bullet for his trouble on several occasions. He gambled and it worked. But it wasn’t a good thing.

It is a question about whether staffers were doing party business or government business:

They stated that instead of working in Strasbourg, assistants were to work for Le Pen’s National Rally party in a domestic capacity.

The current prime minister has apparently done similarly sketchy things, but has not faced prosecution. Perhaps Hillary can lend him her bleach bit:

Pierre Lellouche, a lawyer and former Deputy of the French National Assembly, appeared on CNEWS to point out that the current prime minister, François Bayrou, faced the same charge and suffered no consequences.

“Then, last but not least, there is the case of (François) Bayrou, the current prime minister, who has been prosecuted for exactly the same thing, i.e., for abuses of party funding declared as parliamentary assistants in Europe, at the EU parliament. Bayrou emerged from this affair without being in the least concerned. In fact, the public prosecutor’s office has once again referred the matter to the courts, but even so, we’re dealing with a double standard here. It’s a bit surprising.”

Then there was Christine Lagarde, who was convicted of negligence that for failing to challenge a 400 million euro payout. She kept her job and had no jail time.

I note that the Brazilian government is going after the former President for falsely questioning the legitimacy of the election he lost. This will keep him from running. Now where could they have gotten an idea to do something like that?
Apparently the social left is now going into saving democracy by banning political candidates. Likely Trump winning has put the fear of populism into them.

No that’s not why. You missed out on him working with military leaders to stage a coup through the riots. Which is not questioning. Don’t make things up without reading up on them. They didn’t just charge him. They charged a whole lot of military leaders

They were going to arrest the president who won the election, suspend the election results and install him as president. It’s not the same thing no matter how hard you try.

You mean like we do here in the US at the moment?

I mean like we almost had if Democrats had succeeded in implementing a one-party dictatorship.

France and Romania are just following the lead of the Democratic Party and its allies.

  1. Smear your opponent with false charges related to Russia-collusion.

  2. Get courts to remove him from the ballot.

  3. Prosecute him based on obviously politically motivated charges.

  4. If all else fails, look for another Oswald.

Some would say that Ukrainians already found a wannabe Oswald:

Stop this asinine nonsense . History didn’t start in 2021.

Europe has been prosecuting its party leaders for decades.

Some for rape others for corruption.

Francois Mitterandt was convicted after he was dead!

Yes, the CIA has been interfering in European elections since WW2. The original objective was to keep Communists out of the government, but Communists are fine now:

The current sorry crop of EU leaders owe their positions of power in large part to USAID. That explains a lot about “defending democracy” in Europe.

That’s some kind of counter

Mitterand wasn’t a communist and he was dead. The French still convicted him

They did not convict a dead man. They convicted people who had worked with him for illegal wiretaps. How quaint.

Of course, we are now in an era when every electronic communication is monitored and recorded by multiple intel agencies.

Go look up the mitterand pasqua affair. He was fiend 2m and received a two year suspended sentence

You need to stop cherry picking history.

But did they ban Miterandt from future elections . . .

I also forgot about sarkozy scandal. :joy:. I mean it’s like they have convicted every one of their politicians of criminal behavior

After they left office

Correct but if we dig deeper i bet we can find past presidential candidates prosecuted. It’s clearly A thing in France

If you can point to another example where the leading presidential candidate was convicted and banned from a French election, please provide it.

It is no secret that “bending the rules” and outright corruption are widespread among French politicians. It is obvious to everyone in France that Le Pen is being prosecuted now to prevent her from running.

And yet I don’t recall the battle where his revolution was defeated.

And yet how many political prosecutions of the winners do we have in any of these countries? Turns out only potential threats to the existing powers commit crimes.
