World War I led to an entire generation being wiped out (the generation that fought the war was killed, maimed, and traumatized to the point of being unrecognizable). World War II was so devastating that it left every single country that participated (with the exception of the US) in near or actual collapse.
I’d say keeping them interdependent has done the world a heap of good.
