Freshman Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez swiped at Department of Education Secretary Betsy DeVos Thursday; accidentally highlighting major issues plaguing public education in America while calling for increased funding.
“Only *one-third* of American children in elementary & middle school can read at grade-level. One third. Yet Betsey DeVos is trying to cut *every* Federal literacy program in the country,” posted Ocasio-Cortez on social media Thursday morning.

Users on social media quickly pointed-out the incoherence of the left-wing legislator’s argument; with one person writing “Ask any teacher at the local level to describe the impact of either of these federal programs mentioned on their daily practice . You won’t find any who can because they make no difference.”
