No, not all of it.
If a family can’t visit the Smithsonian and have lunch out on their vacation, that is lost revenue. The chance is gone.
I remember Obummer trying to barricade off Mt Vernon even though it is private property.
He did barricade off the roads where people couldn’t even drive through the National Park in the Smokey mts.
The man is a turd imo.

Actually, that’s a very good question.
We run this government with deficit money all the time. What makes Oct 1 any different?
Is it because we don’t have a formal budget in place? All the rest of the year we bust the budget with new initiatives and programs and executive orders…
The farce of our federal budget is just a political football at this point.

End of the fiscal year, no appropriations. It doesn’t have to be a “budget,” but the government can’t spend money Congress didn’t authorize.
No Money shall be drawn from the Treasury, but in Consequence of Appropriations made by Law; and a regular Statement and Account of the Receipts and Expenditures of all public Money shall be published from time to time.

You don’t ever seem to worry about all the business that go out of business when the government shuts down drilling. All those people they put out of work. All the lost revenue to the area.

What’s your plan? Seems to be let’s just keep on racking up the debt and when it all collapses so what.
You can’t tax your way out of this one.

Guess you will just have to stay home.
The country did not collapse when all those things happened during the big covid shutdown.

So how can an executive order spend money that Congress didn’t authorize?

Guvnah:
Take it up with the CBO.
You have to read the actual report.
None of those executive orders resulted in unappropriated spending. The “cost” they’re calculating is based on lost student loan interest, and things like that.

These are the things I was referring to, and don’t forget he barricaded the WWII monument just as a group of WWII veterans from around the country showed up to visit the memorial in their honor.

Government shutdowns are no big deal, but don’t you dare shut down my stuff!!!
That was just nasty. I thought Obummer a nasty and often petty character myself.

They’re all nasty and petty, but what do I know, I’m just a deplorable person bitterly clinging to my guns and Bible

Publius:
That “temporary” can be a substantial length of time, and cause a lot of problems for a lot of people both in and outside the government. The administrative and operational costs involved in shutting down major programs and then starting them up again at some unpredictable future date are substantial. Penalties can accrue when contract payments aren’t made on time. Members of the public with time-sensitive issues (federal licenses, passports, IRS issues, pending applications for government approvals or services, etc.) are just screwed. Got a National Parks vacation planned? Fuggedaboudit.
So what? Why aren’t you as concerned about the permanent effects that further bloating the budget would have?

Because those are the rules. The authority to spend the money running the government expires midnight tomorrow.
