Well, DNA is unreliable for North American ancestries. Its much more reliable for Asian or African ones. Even if it showed NA ancestry it wouldn’t show what tribe. There are lots of NA citizens who have negative DNA results, despite having documented ancestry. Documentation for Cherokee relies on the Dawes registry, which happened over a hundred years ago and was voluntary. If your ancestor didn’t want to register you are out of luck there.

So, in short there is no benefit for her doing it. She was raised in Oklahoma, where a lot of Native Americans live. Her parents eloped because they belonged to different tribes, so she was told.

She never used her heritage, or what she thought it was, to her benefit. She first mentioned it months after she was tenured at Harvard, and once you are tenured you are pretty set.

It’s good from a colony based on Puritan work ethic to one dominated by child like individuals who want something for nothing.

I’m not the woman’s biggest fan. But even I say the fuss about if she does or doesn’t have indigenous tribal heritage is silly.

She probably was told of her heritage as many of us are—by family. Must be a lot of families out there who are liars if that’s what it is when repeating stories that were told generation after generation.

There is proof to the contrary.
Her DNA test showed maybe one AmerIndian ancestor, 6 to 10 generations removed.
She has less Indian blood than the average American.
