Elections in Venezuela

Definitely looks like shenanigans. Exit polls had Maduro losing bigly.

Panama has just suspended diplomatic relations pending election review. Even Chile’s left-wing government issued a strong statement.

Now this is what a REAL stolen election looks like.

I was just going to post that exact comment.

For an election for a president, this is questionable. But for El Presidente, its business as usual.

If Gonzales supporters want to storm the capitol and even steal a lectern or two, I approve.

The media in this country is just a light version of the same thing, posting “likely winners” several hours before polls close, excluding candidates from debates, feeding candidates debate questions beforehand, etc.

As thousands of people demonstrated across Venezuela, opposition candidate Edmundo González on Monday announced that his campaign has the proof it needs to show he won the country’s disputed election whose victory electoral authorities handed to President Nicolás Maduro.

González and opposition leader Maria Corina Machado told reporters they have obtained more than 70% of tally sheets from Sunday’s election, and they show González with more than double Maduro’s votes. Both called on people, some of whom protested in the hours after Maduro was declared winner, to remain calm and invited them to gather peacefully at 11 a.m. Tuesday to celebrate the results.

Meanwhile, people are rioting in the streets and toppling Huge Chavez’s statues.

Is it finally going to happen?

If Gonzales complains that the election was stolen he could be charged as an insurrectionist in a left wing district in front of a left wing judge. This country will be in no position to complain.

Worse than Jan 6.

If jan6 had succeeded

Not optimistic. But… who knows :crossed_fingers:

Sure we will. You see, the election wasn’t stolen in this country.

Succeeded in doing what?

Looks like the military is siding with the protesters. I think Maduro is done:

Socialism ends in starvation, slavery, and death. It’s voted in, and fought out.

“Given the overwhelming evidence, it is clear to the United States and, most importantly, to the Venezuelan people that Edmundo González Urrutia won the most votes in Venezuela’s July 28 presidential election,” U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken said in a statement.
