Does congress have the right to Trump's tax records?

And now they have had their chance for two years and … nothing.

And? Nothing in the TOS says any poster has to support whst the host supports.

You mean like questioning the political ideology of another poster in this thread in a snarky way?

What part of US presidents, or major candidates for that office, publicly releasing their tax returns seems unfair to you?

What about what the Supreme Court said about intent and the Espionage Act?

If it is voluntarily done, none. If the opposing party goes to the IRS, and demands that the IRS release the taxes in question, without the consent of the candidate, everything.

Where do you see it as a requirement for office? There is a method for making it a requirement for office if you like, but as yet it is not one. Trying to force the govt to release the taxes on a citizen is garbage. The voters who voted for Trump, and I am not one of them, made their decision. They didnt care.

Make them all public

The Supreme Court has already ruled that CONGRESS decides whether returns are public or private. Tax information was public at one time…

The more you know…

That’s interesting. Can executive privilege be asserted by the executive refusing to do something? Since it’s not codified, is there a formal process? Or is there just tradition?

If you don’t think parties change over time take a gander at what republicans said about foreign governments like the Soviet Union or China 50-70 years ago. The grandfathers and great grandfathers of these current republicans have got to be spinning in their graves.

Wouldn’t it be interesting that after Nadler’s investigation that the committee proposed legislation exempting presidential tax returns from the privacy laws? Would make a great campaign issue in 2020…

So you’re going off memory?

That doesn’t seem like a good idea. Your memory isn’t what it used to be.

Sure…Private or Public for ALL individuals. Not just political enemies

Up to congress… I personally see nothing egregious about making the presidents tax returns public. Even more fun would be watching Trump Beto the bill.

Because of the Teapot Dome scandal…under a Republican President.

As a matter of fact, Congress does have the right to compel testimony as per SCOTUS ruling McGrain v. Daugherty and the right to access to tax returns as per Congress passing legislation after the Teapot Dome scandal for review of tax records of any US citizen without regard to elected or appointed position, nor subject to White House interference.

You know how the Mueller Report worked out? You’ve seen it? The rest of us have not…yet.

You had to be there. My guess, he wasn’t.

Is it still a “witch hunt” when it catches several witches? Is it just a fish expedition when we haven’t seen the investigation results yet because the subject of the investigation is working hard to keep said results under wraps? You’d think an innocent man would be happen to release extensive investigative evidence of his innocence.

Oh? What was that criminal investigation regarding Nixon? Who was in charge of it?
