Obey all commands.

This is where I have a problem. The commands should be lawful. I shouldn’t have to cower to an overzealous cop because they have a gun.

Would you obey the commands of a man with a gun who was demanding that you hand over your watch and your wallet?

Specifically what commands are you referring to? “Stop!” “Do not move!” “Show your hands!” “Do not put your hand in your pocket!” Exactly what is your objection to such commands?

What’s the argument? That people would obey the unlawful commands of a criminal at gun point so they should obey a LEO without any consideration as to the legality of their commands? Or the commands of law enforcement are always lawful? No such thing as illegal detention.

If someone has the right to resist and defend themselves against the commands and actions of criminal, why can’t they do the same towards unlawful commands and actions of the police? It’s more acceptable if it’s the police doing the unlawful activity? It’s the injured or dead’s fault for not submitting?

No. The argument is, don’t be an ■■■■■■■ and you almost certainly will not be shot by a cop.

What if the cop is acting illegally? Just like the man with a gun demanding that you hand over your watch and your wallet. Are the unlawful commands of a police officer different from the unlawful commands of anyone else?

That said, I do prioritize survival. If one is in a no win situation… well fighting back may not be the best course of action.

In this most recent shooting, the gunshot victim was outnumbered and basically surrounded. His best course of action would have been to surrender.

I agree. I’m going to do just about anything to make sure shots are never fired, regardless of who is holding the gun(s) toward me. However, if I feel the only course of action is to actively protect myself by fleeing/getting out of the line of fire, I’d do it in either situation.

American police seem to lack proper crisis skill to deal with the general public, but then again American police are not bound to serve and protect the citizen in America.

There is a fundamental difference between policing in America and policing in Europe/Canada.
which is why there is a fundamental difference in the number of police shootings.

But American are to polarized to have an adult conversation about the nature of policing and how it can be shaped to better service the American people.

Well I’ll disagree with your first assertion, police department constantly train officers to be able to assess situations quickly and resolve “a crisis” expeditiously. A big problem with (some) civilians is that somewhere along the way respect for the police officer has degenerated into the officer being the object of insults and refusal to obey simple lawful commands! Everyone now wants to be a YouTube star and it’s fashionable to tell a LOE to go ■■■■ themselves!

Since when? Cops in America go on a call and don’t know unless they’re informed ahead of time a suspect is armed. Cops get shot during traffic stops and there are cops in America that don’t even draw their service weapon their whole career and only shoot it on qualification day. Except for the Italian Carabinieri (IMHO), American police officers are the best trained domestic law enforcement agencies in the world!
There are facts and statistics that exist surrounding ”cop shootings” but keep in mind, America is a violent society. There are more casualties on American streets committed by civilians against other civilians than in the war zones where American military personnel are deployed! In some of the minority communities it’s a shooting gallery! And it is getting worse whether it’s Covid, the water, leftist lunatic groups or whatever; people are getting bat ■■■■ crazy! In Europe mobs get their arses beat and the water cannon by riot cops. Do that here in America the cops get fired and sued?
City bureaucrats change the policing guidelines because of pressure and a fear for their phony baloney jobs, cops don’t know whether to arrest or kiss a lawbreaker anymore.
If you want an “adult conversation” make sure you bring “adult beverages”, you’re gonna need it!

If a BLM chapter leader is interviewed and asked what they thing of the violence, I would expect them to reiterate their stance on peace.

Well why don’t you lay out a step by step list of how they should go about bringing their grievances to light. If they say nothing about police brutality it gets swept under the rug. If they protest they all get labeled as looters and rioters. If they try to bring attention by peacefully kneeling during the National Anthem they’re called sons of bitches by the president.
