Why hasn’t Trump endorsed Dr Fauci’s advice that there needs to be a nationwide lockdown?
Just to put a, hopefully, hypothetical extreme case: is the economy more important if it comes at a cost of 50 million deaths?

I am sure that this would be the same opinion if a Democrat was failing this badly.
Can the president sack a vice-president?
Even double that number. The economy needs to be started up again. America was not built to be shut down.

If the economy crashing destroys 50 million plus. To me, this isn’t an opinion thing it’s a logical one. That’s why I said I am not smart enough to know what that point is, but hopefully someone in a position of power is.

So in February and early March they were basically doing the same thing Trump was doing, downplaying the risk of coronavirus. You think they should face the consequences for that, but not Trump?

As I understand it the need to have a lockdown is to ensure that there is not a second wave. How much worse would it be if there is a premature re-opening of the economy and then there is a second wave of widespread infections which will necessitate a second lockdown, more deaths and a complete waste of the sacrifices of the first shutdown?
It still all comes down to totals. How many saved vs how many the lock down destroys. I actually hope a lot of asemantic people got this virus before the showdown so when we do open back up they won’t be carriers.

I don’t think Trump down played it to the point of our country’s detriment. I believe he downplayed it enough for the country to remain calm…while stepping aside the podium and FREELY ALLOWING TIME for the professionals to speak. That’s an accurate synopsis of what happened and is happening. Now do with it as you will?

We have a thing called “states” here. Everything in the country isnt run by one central government. Some don’t like that but we have states that are involved in regulating or in some cases running their own hospitals, and they have their own health departments.
There is no reason why California and Wyoming have to have the exact same rules.
They are very different in the risk of spreading the virus.
And each has access to the recommendations of the CDC. A health care professional in a state has more training in implementing medical decisions than a President.

Doesn’t Dr Fauci have a medical degree?

Trump was following the advice of the CDC, and specifically Dr. Fauci. As of Feb 11, they were still hoping that there would be no widespread transmission of the coronavirus. It was recognized that no travel ban, even if air tight, would keep the virus out of the US. IF the virus started to spread, they would then implement social distancing. It did. They did.
Trump was following the advice of the experts. What else was he supposed to do?

So, generally, do the people who run the health departments of each state.

That information is attainable through an internet search that you can do as well as I. If you want to make a point, make it.
If the economy crashes, more than 50 million die?

Did Dr. Fauci recommend that the federal government enforce a lockdown on every state?

That 50 million deaths thing is just a made up unreal number…you do realize that?
I guess you could counter it with the economy and the food chain crashing and resulting in 75 million deaths from starvation…if you wanted to. I dont.
