Media used to take its role as a check on politics.
Both World War era’s are examples of this.

Uh no. And we are not at war.

Lol. Do you think that Trump is a popular president?
Even if the media is honest, there will be a bunch of people accusing them of being dishonest. Its unwinnable.
When was that? And how would that work with international news?
Maybe not formally, but we’re certainly engaged in combat.
President Trumps AG disagrees.

Stop them from what? Shutting down right-wing media? That’s not a goal of the vast majority of Democrats and just isn’t going to happen, so I don’t need to do anything. When I disagree with Democrats, though, I vote for Republicans, and vice versa.

With republicans? Sure. Everyone else. Not so much.

I think it would help if Democrats could acknowledge some aspects of the Trump administration that should make them happy, such as not escalating military conflicts or getting us involved in new wars.
Go back earlier.
About 1750-1775.
The media always has its pet agendas. The colonial press is part of the reason our founders were able to get the majority of the public on the side of revolution instead of supporting the crown. There were also some loyalist papers who were opposed.
Even back then, the same news story had two entirely different perspectives. To perpetrate an agenda. The patriot press reported events in a manner that made British authorities look bad. In some cases, they greatly exaggerated the truth. The loyalist papers and the papers back in Britain did the exact opposite. They helped cover for George’s regime.
Even better, the Federalist (centralists) and Anti-Federalist (true republicans) debates, which were fought as much in print media as they were in the halls of the early congress.
There’s never been a truly fair and unbiased media. There is always an agenda.

100% agree.
It’s a gift and a curse that in the 21st century we have access to many different view media outlets to allow the intellectually curious consumer a way to see all sides. This is the gift.
The curse is evident in the 10k election fraud thread.

I did not mean to imply the press is altruistic and has no agenda.
The press used to embrace its role as a check on government corruption.
The press and media has taken that role a step too far to DRIVE government and not check it when the agenda matches.
One good example is atomic testing in the 1950’s. It took some bad press and pressure to drive testing underground and eventually halt it. Nothing being done to the environment today comes close to the radioactive material that was scattered all through the world by the atomic nations and the tests run.
I cringe when nationalism is portrayed as a negative and the press appears to have mostly adopted this philosophy with the exception of the CEC.

Print media used to be profitable and there were once only three news networks.
I don’t feel like dealing with this. I’ll just take the “L”.

Thought so. That was a big “we”, too.
I suspect I’m right and you’re wrong, I just don’t have the time to dig around and see where our troops are actively exchanging fire.
Why a big “we”? Are we not both part of the USA?
