Why? No rights were abrogated, they had no intrinsic right to freedom, just ask the people claiming inalienable rights are fiction.

If you take God out of the equation, you’re right.

Who was it who said, paraphrasing, if God didn’t exist, we would be well served to invent one in regard to the topic of inalienable rights? Not coming to me off the top of my head. Anyway, I agree with him.

I’m not familiar with that quote, but certainly there were atheists among our founding fathers. Thomas Paine for example. If there is no God then there is no absolute morality. Rights given by government can be taken away by government. I find it interesting that in all the dictatorships in the world, Christianity is discouraged if not outright illegal.

When a government removes everything men will fight and die for, the population becomes easy to control. God is right at the top of things that must be removed.

And govt can be forced to give them back.

As far as the Bill of Rights, It has been demonstrated throughout history that every right it lists is limited right at the point it interferes with someone else’s right. In cases of one person’s rights vs. someone else’s rights, we leave it to the courts to decide. Sometimes they decide wrong.

How am I violating someone else’s right here?

I’m not asking if we have a right to a job in somebody else’s company, I think we can all agree that is stupid.

What I’m asking is, if I want to work on lawnmower engines or buy a tanning bed or set up a gym in my garage and train people to earn my living, do I have a right to do that?

I no longer see any value in rights talk. One should be allowed to choose their own profession, and they should be able to do all three things you list while simultaneously having to follow health and safety laws. I sense no conflict/tension between the two anymore than I feel a tension between free speech and laws against vandalism.

Many “health and safety laws” are written in such a way as to eliminate small business competition.
