They can see how that sentiment, that the country has not always lived up to it’s potential, was expressed very poorly.
I suspect people like Colbert’s objection to it is far more about it being terrible optics than any real disagreement with his statement.
The statement that the country has failed on it’s promise to everyone and we are not living up to our own marketing is one that resonates with all people.

They love LIBERALISM and libs in America are nothing but totalitarian socialists and are much more vicious and tyrannical then the softer more gentle socialist European countries they love so much. They should move to the countries like Finland, Denmark, Sweden, they hold up as “nifty” examples of socialism, no one is keeping them here.
