I have been reading a lot of 1800’s American history for the past few years.
One the through lines of our history is successive waves of Nativist movements.
The exact same things that were said about the Irish in the 1840’s with the violent political movement that sprung up about them has the exact same rhetoric as we see today.
My point is that the nativists never change. The second point is that we don’t look too kindly upon the nativists of the 1800’s. The current nativists will be remembered the same way.
