He didn’t set “major trade policy,” he made a threat and they capitulated.

What was there to capitulate on? It was an ad.
It’s been reported that Doug Ford suspended future ad buys.
But with the publicity this received further ad’s aren’t needed so Ontario can save some money. Brilliant.
That would be for the President to decide. If, as he stated, the ad was designed to influence negotiations, then the ad was essentially a part of Canada’s negotiation process. If the ad in the Presidents opinion thereby put the US at a disadvantage in negotiations by creating a false perception, then yes. Good move, don’t allow the other side to control perceptions.

Sure. Maybe people need to think about consequences for their actions before doing things.
Trump’s doing great. Democrats had four years to do better and failed miserably.
Are we going to pretend that Democrat administrations never tried to influence the media or politics of other countries?
