Will the response to reports of rising numbers COVID cases be a return to draconian lockdowns and forced vaccinations?
2018 was the worst flu year since 1918.
Covid has killed 10 times more Americans than the flu in 2018. I’m sure if it was bad then, things are perfectly fine now. People just need to recite the pledge of allegiance and die of COVID for freedom. Or die of things unrelated to COVID because there are no available healthcare resources. It’s the American way.

The CDC estimates that 675,000 Americans died from the Spanish flu. The US population was about 1/3 of what it is today so the death rate was roughly three times as high as with COVID.

The Asian flu 1957-58 and the Hong Kong flu of 1968 were much worse that the 2018 flu. A real problem is that between 1975 and 2015 the number of US hospital beds went down by about 40% while the population went up by over 40%.
Table 89. Hospitals, beds, and occupancy rates, by type of ownership and size of hospital: United States, selected years 1975–2015 (cdc.gov)
Should we destroy the economy and end civil rights because hospitals shut down and reduce the number of beds?
Hospital occupancy rates have fallen since 1975 and remained stable at around 65% since then despite fewer beds. Your own data shows it. Supply and demand. Is the solution to make sure there are way more hospitals and hospital beds than needed in the event of a pandemic? That sounds expensive. That sounds like socialism.
Destroy the economy and end civil rights? The hysteria is entertaining. Just let em die. The old fashioned American way.
There is a very simple solution to the whole problem.
Get sick, don’t go to the hospital.
Die at home.
Then hospitals won’t be overwhelmed.

We have suffered trillions in economic damage and placed most the US under house arrest because we were afraid of overwhelming hospitals that can be overloaded with seasonal flu.
The tail is wagging the dog.

Yes, we have to keep the mail-in ballot printing presses running.

Actually, evidence points to the idea that most of the economic damage was caused by the pandemic itself, and not any mitigation attempts.
Evidence by the fact lockdown states like California actually did better economically than loose states like Florida.
This is something that I have thought was likely true for some time now.
The idea that the economy would have been all hunky dory had we just carried on BAU is patently silly, actually.

If we wear masks and get vaccinated the economy is going to crash!

Building on my earlier posts, there were recessions associated with both the 1957-8 and 1968-9 flu pandemics even though we did not do mitigations anywhere near what we did this time around.
I think the pattern is pretty clear…if there’s a pandemic…the economy will suffer.
Especially in this age of global interconnectedness.

And we may be at a point where this is all we have to do, and the mitigations we did at the start of the pandemic are no longer necessary.
But Freeberty and all that…
Trillions? Sure. How much money would it cost to keep per capita hospital beds at 1975 levels for decades with most of them not being used? That seems to be the reason for the current mess, correct? Who’s paying for those unused beds, hospitals and staff?
Interesting idea of “house arrest.” Must be brutal.
Nah. It’s always the fault of the libs. Come on.
The federal aid packages ran up trillions in debt to bail out states like California.
Our children and grandchildren will be paying that bill.
well they know that non-idiots are stoked and may likely have high turnout against democrats. plus they know midterms typically go to the party out of power
they are already saying (actually saying - yes) that some certain very few republicans who still value freedom need to “get out of the way”
can’t even imagine what’s in store over the next year
buckle up!

That’s from last year. Things have changed.
U.S. population in 1918 was 103,208,000 people.
0.65%
611,791 Kung Flu deaths according to the CDC, population 331,449,281 from the 2020 census.
0.18%
Turn off that stupid TV, fear puppets. lol

Some of these people are equating mask mandates and vaccine requirements to Jim Crow, so…what do you expect?
I expect a disproportionate amount of “freedom loving Americans” to get sick and die from COVID in comparison to the vaccine-taking, mask-wearing, social-distancing commie socialist lib sheep. I just hope the vulnerable and younger populations don’t suffer from the actions of adults in the name of “freedom.”
I’m over it. I’ve seen and heard enough. Let them get sick. Let them die. It’s what they want. They can have it. I would just hope that they stay home when they get sick. Think of it as being responsible for one’s actions. Let the natural course of their decisions play out. Unfortunately they won’t which makes everyone else pay for their “freedom.”
