Instead of direct payments where many of the people are going to waste it, why not offer monetary resources to go to a two year technical school free of charge?
I mean if we are going to throw money away, let’s at least use it for something that may do some good.
Republican presidents, who are always criticized by opponents for screwing the poor, have overseen increases in the percentage of people paying no income tax.*
Democratic presidents, who are always criticized by opponents for being socialists, have overseen steady state or decreases!
Only tbest minds in the world could come up with such ingenious ideas. I often wonder why these incredible minds don’t just simply create amazing businesses that hire and pay people lots of money? Wouldn’t that be easier?
Clearly, given the continued labor shortage despite the growing number of people no longer receiving unemployment. Maybe there’s a bit more to it than “people getting paid more to sit on their ass.”
Fast food places are having to close now due to being regularly short staffed. What happened to all those high school kids needing pocket money who should be filling those jobs?
Maybe a factor is not wanting to deal with being exposed to self righteous Karens who refuse to mask or get vaxxed in a global pandemic while being paid paltry wages to do so. Can’t say I blame them. I wouldn’t risk my life for barely above minimum wage either.
The SPM is a flawed measure of poverty. Your conclusions are flawed as well. Using your conclusions. No one should ever have to work, instead depending on big Government handouts to maintain a decent standard of living.
“The SPM improves on the Official Poverty Measure’s (OPM) resource measure by including several important government benefits such as refundable tax credits, nutrition assistance, and other in-kind benefits while subtracting taxes and work expenses. However, the SPM resource measure suffers from several problems that prevent it from achieving the fundamental goals of an effective poverty measure.”
