They could have a basic radiological weapon in hand. Not full on nuclear explosive but a conventional bomb seeded with uranium oxide. Blow that up and you’ve got a ton of radiation casualties. Won’t destroy a city but it’ll kill a ton of people. Doesn’t require enrichment and it’s easy to do.
Even non-nuclear states and even terrorists can build dirty bombs. All you do is put uranium oxide inside the bomb casing and then blow it up. Radiological contamination over an area.
It’s real ghetto but it would work and it’s easy to do. Only need uranium oxide, which Iran has. I highly doubt they have a full on nuclear explosive. They don’t have the enriched fuel for one.
That sounds like a description of Netanyahu.
Of course, every war that we have been involved in since Vietnam has used lies and misinformation as the pretext. Every war since Vietnam has been far more costly and has lasted far longer than the government was saying at the beginning.
At least in Iraq there was congressional authorization and questioning. We are heading towards a war with Iran with no debate, no congressional authorization, and no firm objective.
Iran is armed with hypersonic missiles that the US does not have in production. They have hit Israel repeatedly. They can hit any US bases in the region. They have a close strategic alliance with both Russia and China. Iran is not 2003 Iraq. The war could end very badly for the US.
Then fire her?
You are living in a land of make believe.
I am more concerned about Israel using the nukes that they officially deny having.
There are many Israelis who think they are in a holy war to exterminate the Philistines and Canaanites.
The basic rule is of US foreign policy is that presidents come and go but policy stays the same. Details of the policies are documented by think tanks in policy papers. In the case of Iran, the US is following the “Leave it to Bibi” scenario in chapter 5 in this 2009 report from the Brookings Institution:
I had hopes that Trump would actually change the rules. Of course, the last president who seriously attempted to counter the plans of the military-industrial complex and CIA and also rein in the Israeli nuclear program ended up dead in a hail of bullets. Trump has already survived two assassination attempts.
Where do you come up with that crap? Wait, I already know the answer.
Israel’s supposedly unsuccessful bombing campaign has already taken care of any hope Iran had of getting the bomb.
The US is very publicly moving assets towards the Middle East:
Iran has been indiscriminately targeting civilians for 5 days. They are about to run out of missiles. Looks to me like that warning is kind of late.
And your point is?
The point is that Israel makes it illegal to report about successful attacks on Israeli military targets. They make it illegal to post videos showing the path of air-defense missiles or incoming Iranian missiles and drones.
About the only thing that is legal to show is damage to civilian buildings, which are used to support propaganda about “Iran targeting civilians”. The fact that the civilian building may be across the street from an IDF command center cannot be reported. Likewise, showing that the damage is likely the result of an air-defense missile can’t be reported.
The first casualty of war is truth. The official narrative from Israel has long been that everyone else attacks civilians. Everyone else uses civilians as human shields, yet the IDF headquarters is in the center of Tel Aviv.
No, they aren’t. They are developing the technology. But after Israel’s successful bombing campaign, I doubt they are still able to do so.
They’ve fired a little over 1,000 missiles thus far. About 90% of those have been successfully intercepted. Some number of the remaining have done little to no damage. A very small number have landed in densely populated civilian areas causing death and destruction.
Iran is rapidly approaching the time when they will have no remaining missiles that can reach Israel.
Thus far Iran has chosen to use proxies to hit US bases in the region. I seriously doubt they would seek direct confrontation with the US by targeting those bases directly.
At this stage of the game, those alliances aren’t worth the paper they are written on. Especially with Russia. Russia has been getting arms from Iran.
There will be no US invasion of Iran, so your comparison is irrelevant.
The only scenario where Israel would go nuclear would be if Iran had constructed a crude nuclear bomb and detonated it in Israel.
I seriously doubt that will happen, so I don’t believe Israel will go nuclear.
Iran demonstrated a hypersonic missile in last year’s attack as noted in the earlier link.
Any missile attack includes decoys and inexpensive drones, which can be hit by Israeli air defense. There is no evidence that Israel is successfully intercepting Iranian missiles to any degree. On the other hand, one of the few reports to escape Israeli censorship shows an successful missile strike on the IDF headquarters.
Iran has so far chosen to hit the US proxy the region. US bases are much closer to Iran and are far easier to hit.
Russia has advanced air defense systems that can shoot down any Israeli or US aircraft that enters Iranian airspace. Bunker busting bombs require large aircraft to go more or less directly over the target. Billions of dollars in aircraft can be lost in one bombing run.
I agree that an invasion is not likely. A more likely scenario is a US conventional bombing campaign possibly followed by a nuclear first strike.
The constitution says that only congress can declare war. If Trump wants to join in the unprovoked attack on Iran, he should get congress to declare war.
Where did you attend college?
You are an American. Iran wants you dead as well as all Americans and Jews.
Netanyahu issued a thinly veiled threat of a nuclear strike on Iran at the UN in 2023:
“Above all – above all – Iran must face a credible nuclear threat. As long as I’m prime minister of Israel, I will do everything in my power to prevent Iran from getting nuclear weapons,” Netanyahu said.
If Trump refuses to bomb Iran, a possible Israeli response could be to achieve regime change by vaporizing Tehran.
Perhaps that is why Trump is telling everyone to leave Tehran.
