Did Trump disparage veterans?

The capacity of the human mind to adapt is indeed impressive. We learned very quickly for example to accept a President ordering the extra-judicial assassination of two US citizens without a squeak.

What it comes down to is there is a price to be paid for every choice made. Sometimes several. Sometimes the motivation matters, sometimes not so much.

I believe President Trump at a minimum said “Vietnam was a stupid war and anybody that went was a sucker.” At some time or another. Maybe several.

“Vietnam was a stupid war.” - Heard a lot of libs and dems say the same or similar things. Same thing about Iraq and fewer but still A-stan. I’ve even heard people say all wars are stupid. It’s usually said by people who don’t know why the war started in the first place or what the objectives were.

I find it hard, given the cost, to argue with the opinion that all wars are stupid. They probably are. But sometimes, many times, they are necessary.

“Anybody who went to Vietnam was a sucker”. 70% of them were volunteers. The people who heard shots fired in anger was a higher percentage of volunteers. So thinking objectively, perhaps the case can be made… if one goes to war believing “if we don’t fight them there we’ll have to fight them here” - perhaps we are.

If one goes to war because that is what young men do, to help the little people fight their oppressors or revenge - perhaps not. There was no danger, zero chance, of the Vietnamese, AQ, the Taliban, Germans or even the Japanese invading this country. Any soldier who goes to war for patriotic reasons learns very quickly how invalid that reason actually is.

I wouldn’t have said it, but it’s not without merit.

The truth of the matter is, young men go to war to test themselves. To see if they can hack it. The really good ones like it.

I don’t blame anyone for doing what they could not to go to war. I don’t blame Trump or Biden or Clinton or the Canada draft dodgers. It’s not for everybody. I do blame, but I understand, Kerry bailing on his crew.

Fortunately now we don’t have to worry about sending people who don’t want to go, it’s voluntary. And if you volunteer, you go.

Just or unjust is a luxury soldiers don’t have. You go, you fight like a lion, and God willing you come back and get ready to go again. Or get out.

And there are no heroes, only men who performed heroic acts in desperate situations.

It is not an act of heroism to volunteer for the military.

So having said that, what I believe the President said is disrespectful. If you didn’t go, you just don’t know. Shut the ■■■■ up.

So that leaves us with the Question: What can a President truly do for a soldier? I say a couple of things:

Don’t commit me unless you have a reason and you mean it.
If you commit me, you have to support me. No excuses.
If you commit me, let me win.

He is pulling them out after 19 and 17 years. I can put up with “suckers” to get them out of those ■■■■ holes after all those years. There’s no mission there any more.

I can put up with not having my ass kissed if it means not sending another US soldier to the ME.

As far as “what do you expect them to do?”

Trump is a ■■■■■■ up person. He has no respect, he’s a selfish, rude lout. A clown.

I don’t want a President to whisper sweet nothings in my ear. Just like I don’t want a trauma surgeon with a “sweet bedside manner”. I want a bastard who gets things done. That breaks ■■■■ to get ■■■■ fixed. A real son of a bitch who will bulldoze over obstacles if that’s what it takes.

Trump, with all his personal faults, is the closest there is. I’m supposed to vote for someone whose ideology is what I believe will destroy this country because Trump is a meanie? Because he talks out his ass?

Yeah, that gets me about this “he’s divisive” thing. What it is really saying is “I’m not going to agree with anything he says or does, I hate him, and there is no way he can make me unite in his cause”. Biden can possibly unite with the BLM mobs, he is not likely to unite with me. He is divisive, not Trump, from my standpoint.
As far as any October surprises Dems may have in storage, I’m not going to switch my vision for the country over to Biden/Kamala/BLM/Antifa over whatever they come up with. Maybe in 4 years we can find the perfect candidate but for now I’m looking at keeping the Dems out.
